Wellness Trends to Watch in 2022

If you’ve ever said the words “new year, new me” then this post is for you! Last year saw us getting into self-care, facial yoga, at-home treatments and focusing on our health as we tried to make sense of everything that was going on.

2022 looks to be even bigger when it comes to wellness trends, with glowing skin, me time, and skincare high up on the agenda. Let’s take a look at some of the wellness trends to watch in 2022.

Microbiome and Fermented Skincare

Microbiome skincare has been on the radar for a little while now, but it’s set to be even bigger in 2022 with formulations that focus on fermented ingredients that feed your skin’s natural balance. It’s thought that many skin issues (like dryness, acne, rosacea and sensitive skin) may actually be caused by an imbalance in the skin’s invisible ecosystem.

Look for products that work with your skin to nourish and protect, rather than using ingredients that work against it. Fermented ingredients are great for keeping your natural pH in check.

Ayurveda

There’s been a rise in Ayurvedic beauty products and brands of late, fusing the ancient concept of Ayurveda with effective, clean formulations. Ayurvedic medicine comes from India and believes that beauty isn’t just superficial - you have to look at the body as a whole to discover your own biological energy (also known as a ‘dosha’)

Customized Routines

This is the year that beauty and wellness gets personal. It’s no longer about ‘one size fits all’ when it comes to looking and feeling our best. We’ll be looking for custom formulations along with skin, hair and body routines that have been created just for us. It’s about getting specific rather than generic.

Astrology Based Beauty

We’re seeing a rise in beauty recommendations based on your rising sign. Whether you’re into horoscopes or not, getting in tune with astrology based beauty can be a fun way to try new products in your routine. So check out your birth chart and choose your products based on what’s in the stars.

Wellness As An All-Round Concept

Holistic wellness focuses on getting the right balance between mind, body, soul and lifestyle to create all-round wellness. It’s no wonder that this has been a focus for those looking to take better care of themselves in 2022. Our physical and mental health has taken a bit of pressure over the last couple of years, so now it’s time to take care of ourselves. Meditation and mindfulness are going to continue to be a key focus too, as we seek inner peace.

Crystal Healing

If you’ve been on TikTok lately, you’ll know we’re all getting into our crystals. Whether it’s to encourage better health, improve our sleep, boost our motivation, or to get our love life moving in the right direction, there’s a crystal for everything. Plus, we love incorporating them into our everyday style.

We’re even seeing some brands explore Lithotherapy, where crystals are actually mixed into their formulations for skin-boosting benefits.

Gua Sha

If you haven’t heard of gua sha, then you must have been living under a rock (but definitely not a gua sha stone) for the past year. It’s a self massage treatment based on traditional Chinese medicine that uses a jade stop to help boost circulation, drain the lymphatic system, lift the skin and firm, sculpt and tighten. It’s also super relaxing and gives skin a great glow.

CBD Infusions

It feels like CBD is in everything right now, from makeup to masks to lip products, skincare and dietary supplements. It’s known for its nourishing, balancing and anti-inflammatory properties as well as boosting relation and stress relief. This is continuing throughout 2022 where we’re looking to live our best, chilled life.

Immunity

Unsurprisingly, immunity is a big focus in 2022. Whether we’re looking to boost our immune system to makeup for all the time we’ve spent hidden away, or we just want to feel healthier and more confident in our body’s ability to steer clear of germs. Wellness supplements, mindful healthcare routines and products that boost our natural immune system are all goals this year.

Wellness Tech

Linked in with our need for custom wellness products is a focus on wellness tech. Whether we’re using AI to match our skin type, at-home robots to paint our nails, microcurrent devices to lift our skin or chatbots to answer our beauty questions, there’s new wellness and beauty tech popping up all the time. Now if someone could just invent something that automatically removes our makeup at the end of the day...
